Sculptra is an injectable dermal filler which approved by the FDA to treat facial wrinkles and folds. It helps to restore the youthfulness of your skin by triggering the production of fresh collagen in the skin. It contains a collagen stimulator known as poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) which provides long-lasting natural-looking results that may last up to two years.
Collagen is essential for the skin to repair itself as it is a key building block in the formation of new skin layers. This will fill out the areas of your face that need extra volume and can also be manipulated to contour parts of your face with excess volume. In addition, it also reduces wrinkles, fine lines, dark circles, eye bags and more as the collagen begins to take effect.
The doctor will determine and outline a specific treatment area for the patient prior to treatment. A series of skin filler injections filled with Sculptra will be introduced to the lower layers of their skin, which triggers the skin to produce collagen and begins both the process of healing and filling or contouring. Areas in which the fatty tissue has been much reduced over the years will begin to fill out, giving the face a more natural shape.
The procedure is swift and only requires a few minutes of your time. Most of the time, patients will undergo two treatment sessions, but this is dependent on the condition of your skin as well as the desired outcome. Sculptra injections are mixed together with a numbing medicine known as licodaine to minimise any potential discomfort that the patient may experience.
Sculptra injection treatments are suitable for those who are seeking for a treatment that is safe, long-lasting result and restores facial volume. Other benefits of Sculptra injections are:
Aging is inevitable for everyone but it doesn’t mean you can’t hack your way through it. As you age, the skin loses its elasticity due to the lack of collagen and hyaluronic acid being produced and may begin to sag or become thinner. This results in the cheekbones becoming a more prominent feature of your face as the skin clings tightly to it. In addition, this loss of volume results in your face looking weary and droopy, and Sculptra injection can help restore its structure and take years off your appearance.
Sculptra acts as skin booster injection, which stimulates fresh collagen production and keeping the skin firm, fullness and smooth. This skin filler treatment improves facial volume giving patients a more youthful appearance and the illusion of a facelift without surgery.
Wrinkles are an inevitable part of aging, and is a natural process that occurs due to the skin losing its ability to produce collagen. It holds the skin together, maintaining its tightness and elasticity and the lack of production means that the skin is unable to snap back into place. As a result, creases and folds begin to develop and form in the skin, eventually leading to wrinkles and fine lines. Facial expressions can also contribute to wrinkles due to the lack of collagen, while excessive exposure to the sun and dehydration can also be a factor.
Sculptra is injected into the skin to diminish wrinkles and fine lines. The collagen stimulator (PLLA) will help to gradually restore fullness to facial wrinkles and folds. This results in a softer and more youthful appearance.
You may experience some mild redness and bruising of the skin – redness should subside within a few hours while bruising should fade within 1 week. Ice can be applied to the treatment area 2-3 times daily for 5 minutes at a time to reduce the recovery time. Moreover, do avoid exercising within 24 hours after injections.
It is not a suitable treatment for individuals who are experiencing autoimmune diseases such as arthritis or lupus. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding are not a candidate for Sculptra skin filler injections. It is also not recommended for use on the eyes or the lips due to its anatomical structure and skin tissue.
Sculptra is a safe treatment, with no known long-term side effects. There are only two short-term side effects – mild redness and bruising of the skin.
There is no downtime required for after being treated with Sculptra. The patient can return to their daily routine immediately following Sculptra treatment. It usually takes 4-6 weeks before results begin to show up as it takes time for collagen levels to build up. After this, you should see gradual improvements as the skin begins to thicken and your face begins to fill out.
A second touch-up treatment is recommended in order to finish up the facial contouring and sculpting process, and results will last for up to 3 years. Sessions are usually spaced 1 month apart, and individuals above 50 years of age may opt for 3 sessions in order to obtain more favourable results.
