A new type of laser treatment for skin imperfections, known as Fractional CO2 Laser, can be used to get rid of wrinkles, enlarged pores, or dull skin by breaking down the skin tissue and allowing new skin to grow over the treatment area.
The effects of the treatment will be similar to that of deep chemical peels and ablative lasers, but the crucial difference offered by Fractional CO2 Laser is that you will not be subject to the usual downtime or discomfort that comes with the aforementioned procedures.
Using the new technology of Fractional Laser Resurfacing (Lux1540, non-ablative) can obtain results that are similar to that of deep chemical peels or ablative laser resurfacing. The technology utilises laser energy microbeams to penetrate and break down skin tissue through the epidermis.
Your body will naturally heal and during the process, creates new, healthy tissue to replace the affected areas that have undergone treatment. Scars should be of a lighter colour and your skin texture will be more even, leaving no visible wounds and allows you to apply make-up immediately following the procedure.
There are a lot of benefits by doing Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing which are it will help in reducing facial wrinkles, skin irregularities, such as blemishes and acne scars, age spots and tighten the skin. This procedure also helps in:
Acne is a skin disorder that commonly occurs during puberty; however, adults can also be affected by it. Pores in our skin are connected via follicles that act as passageways to oil glands, which are placed underneath your skin. These glands produce a natural liquid known as sebum which helps to carry dead skin cells through the follicles, bringing them to the surface of your skin. Hairs grow out of follicles, and when an accrual of oil under the skin blocks these follicles, pimples begin to grow and form. Over the next few months, further collagen remodelling and some skin tightening will help to maintain your acne-free complexion.
Large pores tend to appear on oily skin as the sebum and dirt collect, causing your skin to swell and pores to appear larger than usual. Individuals who tend to have oily skin often have large pores as well. Aging is another factor that causes large pores as the skin loses its elasticity, which may cause pores to look bigger. Each pulse from the laser vaporises a column of tissue that heats collagen deeply. This heat stimulates collagen growth, improves pore texture, and tightens the skin.
Wrinkles usually come about as we get older, and are creases, folds or ridges in the skin. It is a part of the aging process and cannot be avoided, but may often occur due to facial expressions, damage caused by the sun, smoking, or dehydration. As you age, your skin becomes drier, thinner, and notably, less elastic. This causes wrinkles and other lines to form on the skin as it slowly loses the ability to protect itself from damage. By using the fractionated method, the laser removes layers of skin tissue leaving the skin surrounding each column intact to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
There are a variety of factors that can contribute to your skin looking old and dull. The city lifestyle exposes your skin to a lot of dust and pollution, which settles on your skin and gives it a dull appearance. In addition, the stress caused by a taxing job and the city lifestyle could also be contributing to your less than perfect outlook. A lack of sleep could also be to blame and is often the cause of dark eye circles, eye bags and even early wrinkling. As the laser stimulates fresh collagen production, the new skin will appear more healthy and radiant.
Stretch marks are a common occurrence and most people are likely to have experienced them at some point in their life. During periods of rapid growth or weight gain, fine lines may begin to form on the body due to the skin being overstretched. This occurs because the regular production of collagen is disrupted, leading to connective tissue not growing as it should. The dermal and epidermal tearing comes about as a result of this, with the skin not being as elastic as it should be.
Fractional laser can also help in removing the tattoo, especially the coloured ones. Fractional laser blasts of enough energy to break down the colour pigment in our skin. The process causes transdermal elimination of the tattoo ink. Some of the ink flows into the lymphatic system, while the rest undergoes rephagocytosis by dermal scavenger cells.
Fractional laser is a go-to treatment for pigmentation or melasma (hyperpigmentation). Pigmentation is caused by sun damages, that turns our skin cells black and hard. Getting rid of pigmentation is not easy as it is in the deeper layer of the skin.
Fractional laser reaches deep into this skin layer and breaks down the pigmentation into smaller particles to be absorbed by the body. When your skin healed, it should be totally free of pigmentation.
Skin lightening is also possible with Fractional Laser. Fractional laser removes the top layer of your skin that are usually darker than your natural shades. This works wonders especially on areas that are damaged by frictional force like underarm, thigh, buttocks or private areas.
Do take note that this treatment is not suitable for all. It is not recommended for those with a dark skin tone as the healing and treatment processes will take much longer. Do the treatments generally 1-4 weeks apart to avoid any serious side effects.
Any complications are rare. But some mild side effects may happen. You may experience mild pain and warmth sensation when the laser is used, but because your face will be numbed so it should only be mildly uncomfortable. A strong stream of cold air also is blown on the area during the treatment to make it comfortable.
Swelling and redness with some crusting is expected after the treatment. However, this will clear up after 2-3 days.
There will be three to seven days of downtime. The treated area is going to be red, peeling and scaly. You will be required to avoid direct contact with sunlight within the downtime. Be sure to use sunscreen to protect your skin from exposure to the sun to reduce the chances of any complications. Besides that, a healthy skin care routine consisting of selected products should help you to maintain your fresh skin as well.
The cost of fractional laser treatment varies depending on the size of the area being treated, the severity of your skin condition, and also medical services providers. Full face fractional lasers cost approximately RM1,200 to RM2,800 per session. Compared to other types of laser, fractional laser resurfacing is ablative where it penetrates and treats your skin deeper. Thus, having a procedure with a qualified doctor is strongly recommended to avoid any harm.

The laser feels like tiny pinches of ant bites, which is very short. During the laser, you will be numbed with numbing cream, so you will feel more comfortable.
Our skin renews itself every 28 days. The new skin will replace the layer of old skin that have been destroyed by laser constantly, so there is no issues as skin thinning.
The laser itself takes only 15-20 minutes to do, whereas the whole process including consultation and numbing takes about 1 hour.
