Dermaroller (Microneedling)

Derma roller is a skin device that creates micro pathways in the skin for products to absorb and penetrate. It comes in several ranges of needle size which from 0.2 mm to 2.5 mm in diameter. The needle size applied based on skin condition.

Also known as skin needling or micro-needling treatment, Derma roller aims to provide a boost to the production of collagen in the skin in order to freshen up the top layers of the skin. It also encourages the growth of fresh skin cells which can form new layers of tissue.

A sterile roller introduces a series of sharp micro-needles to the skin, rolling over the surface to create microscopic channels. This minor damage is intended to encourage the body to produce collagen and elastin to mend itself, generating new skin cells in the process.

As a result, this can help to revitalise and thicken your skin, which can make you look more youthful. The microscopic channels created by the Derma roller will also close up swiftly, giving your skin the opportunity to heal itself fairly quickly.

Active Acne / Acne Scar

Acne occurs when the pores in the skin, connected via follicles acting as passageways, get blocked by a build-up of sebum. This is because a natural liquid called sebum helps to eliminate dead skin cells by bringing them through the follicles to the surface of your skin; when this passage gets blocked, pimples begin to form. The new collagen formed from the skin-pricking process will help smooth out skin’s appearance by fill in the acne scars.

Pores & Texture

When sebum and dirt build up in oily skin, this causes your skin to swell and stretch. This results in your pores to appear larger than usual. Another factor to consider is sun exposure; this triggers your skin into thickening as additional skin cells grow around the pores’ edges to offer protection against UV rays. This stretches them out, making pores larger than usual. Once the skin is punctured derma rolling, the skin starts to stimulate the collagen production that supports skin renewal and pores shrinking process.

Stretch Marks

Most people will experience stretch marks at some point in their lives. During periods of rapid weight gain or growth, fine lines may slowly form as the skin struggles to adapt to the drastic increase in stress caused by this. It interrupts normal collagen production in the skin, leading to a disruption in the growth of connective tissue. As a result, the skin tears as it cannot increase its elasticity without the presence of collagen. For stretch marks problem, dermaroller will create punctures on the skin.  The skin will respond by stimulating the formation of extra collagen fibers to treat these punctures. It also helps in plumping up the skin and stimulating the blood supply which makes skin stretch marks gets improved.

Wrinkles / Fine Lines

Wrinkles and fine lines are a natural occurrence as you age, and is an inevitable part of the aging process. As you get older, the skin will become drier, thinner and less elastic. This means the skin slowly loses its ability to protect itself from damage and cannot snap back into place, resulting in creases and folds in the skin beginning to develop.

Dull Skin

Dull skin is the result of accumulation of dead skin cells, dust and excess sebum. As it develops a layer on your skin, it makes your skin look unenergetic, dark with dull complexion. Dermaroller helps to do a deep-cleansed exfoliating effect that removes this top layer of the skin and encourages the build up of collagen. As collagen increase, it holds more water and moisture, making your skin look fresher and brighter.

A customised serum will be applied to your skin during the process to address your individual needs, as well as a topical anaesthetic in order to prevent any discomfort or pain. New rollers are used for each individual to ensure cleanliness, while the needles made from a titanium alloy helps to reduce the chance of allergic reactions. The use of derma roller is not recommended for pregnant or nursing women.

Infection is not very likely due to the rapid closing of the microscopic channels in the skin, but you may experience some skin inflammation. This includes redness and slight itching. However, this will fade in a few hours and can subside completely in approximately 1 day.

This treatment offers minimal downtime compared to other treatments. On average, it is recommended that you undergo a minimum of 3 treatments about 6 weeks apart for general anti-aging or 5 treatments for acne scars or general scarring. However, the number and subsequent results may vary according to the individual and your doctor will advise and recommend a suitable number of treatments for you.

It may sound painful while rolling a wheel of needles across your facial. Dermaroller or micro-needling treatment in Malaysia is estimated to cost around RM 300 to RM 2,800 per session. The price may vary depends on the area being treated, needle size and what problem does it solve.
