Tattoo Removal

The Nd:YAG laser’s unique combination of short wavelength light and rapid, high intensity pulses makes it an very good option for tattoo removal as it helps to maximise the destruction of skin pigmentation and tattoo ink. The treatment minimises scarring as the laser preserves the surrounding skin and focuses its light energy only on the tattoo ink, breaking it up and leaving it to be removed by your body’s natural cleansing process.

Repeated treatments over a period of several weeks are recommended and usually needed for good results. On average, there will be up to a 90-95% reduction of your tattoo’s appearance and almost all colours can be removed except certain shades of yellow and green. Tattoos that are smaller in size require fewer pulses to larger tattoos, but in both cases you should see a gradual improvement in your tattoo and it will appear lighter after each subsequent session.

The Nd:YAG laser works by stimulating collagen production which is used by the skin to generate new cells. This new technology is able to target scars and wrinkles to be treated at the root, deep in the skin. Using laser energy that penetrates deeply without injuring the top layer of skin, the deeper layers of skin are stimulated to produce natural collagen and other vital proteins that make up healthy and youthful-looking skin. This treatment is relatively swift and is painless, with the added bonus of very little or no downtime for patients.

All tattoos are unique and thus removal must be tailored specifically for each tattoo. As mentioned earlier, green and yellow shades are harder to remove and thus must be considered before selecting this treatment. Black ink absorbs all laser wavelengths, making it the easiest colour to remove using the laser treatment.

Treatment sessions will vary depending on the size and colours of your specific tattoo, and you should schedule an appointment for consultation so you can make a calculated and informed decision about removal.
