Obagi Medical Grade Skincare is a skincare line product with powerful formula that focuses on enhancing and restoring overall skin health on a daily basis and beyond. It is designed to target a range of concerns including acne, discolouration, pigmentation, and dry and aging skin. It contains a combination of powerful ingredients that suitable and support every skin tone and type. Each line in the Obagi Skincare product addresses different issues.

Active Acne/ Acne Scars

Normal to Dry System consists of:

• Daily Care Cream Cleanser
  A non-soap cleanser that is gentle on the skin and helps to wash off dirt and excess oil from your skin, keeping it clean and soft
• Therapeutic Lotion
  Penetrates the follicles to target acne where it starts, and helps to reduce the amount of bacteria present that can cause acne
• Therapeutic Moisturiser
  Calms soothes and protects your skin by forming a breathable barrier for your skin, while also hydrating it to reduce moisture loss

• Daily Care Foaming Cleanser (118ml)
  Refreshes and cleanses your skin by helping to remove dirt and excess oil

Premier Clinic carries the Obagi skincare treatment line which can help to battle against various skin disorders including acne and acne scarring. The Obagi CLENZIderm System is a prescription-strength acne treatment that penetrates deep into the follicle to treat acne from its root. It contains a patented, solubilized form of benzoyl peroxide.

There are two distinct systems for you to choose from depending on your skin type – normal to oily skin or normal to dry skin. This simple 3-step Obagi acne therapy can reach and penetrate follicles to aid in the reduction of existing acne as well as preventing any future breakouts of acne on your skin.

The system is a medically-based skincare program that combines a series of products – cleanser, toner, skin lightener, exfoliater, and Retin-A. The suitability of Retin-A was recognized by Dr Obagi early on and has since refined the system to optimize the improvements of it while stabilizing some of the unwanted side effects it causes.

Active Acne / Acne Scars

Acne is a common skin disorder that is estimated to affect the majority of 11-30 year olds at least once in their lifetime. There are several factors that can lead to the occurrence of acne, namely the menstrual cycle, stress and anxiety, humid climates and “popping” pimples among others. It is most commonly found on the face, chest, back, neck or shoulders. Pimples develop when sebum produced by the oil glands under the skin are trapped in blocked follicles, resulting in accrual of oil under the skin that swells when infected by bacteria. Obagi CLENZIderm System excellently works as acne scar removal as it deeply penetrated into follicles roots and clearing excess sebum or dirt on your skin which allows your skin to heal.

Hyperpigmentation / Pigmentation/Age Spots

Hyperpigmentation and age spots come about as a result of the skin producing melanin to protect itself from harmful UV rays from the sun. Age spots are flat and usually occur on areas of the skin that are exposed to the sun, and may appear brown, grey or black in colour. They also appear due to hyperpigmentation but melanin production is only concentrated in a small spot. Overexposure to the sun may cause both pigmentation and age spots, but they may also be caused by picking at the skin, hormonal changes, inflammation or acne, or even certain medications such as antibiotics. It is harmless but may not be aesthetically pleasing for some individuals.

Dull Skin

Skin that is not hydrated enough and a build-up of dead skin cells will all contribute towards dull skin. It can be caused by many factors but one of the most common factors is a lack of sleep (less than 7 hours), almost normal in the busy lifestyles of those living in the city. This results in the formation of wrinkling, dark eye circles, and eye bags. Another potential cause is an improper diet lacking in vitamins and minerals – this deprives your skin of the nutrients it needs to remain healthy. Other causes that can contribute to dull skin include too much smoking and drinking, overexposure to the sun, and skin that is not cleaned properly which results in the pores struggling to breathe.

Melasma

Melasma is a skin condition that occurs when melanocytes are stimulated, producing large quantities of melanin that gathers in patches on the skin, usually on the face. It also affects women more than men, accounting for a mere 10% of individuals with melasma. Common triggers are believed to be excessive sun exposure, a change in hormones and some beauty products that irritate the skin.

Pregnant women are also at risk of contracting melasma, which is also known as chloasma or a pregnancy mask. There is an increase of progesterone, estrogen and melanocyte-stimulating hormones in the second and third trimesters, but it is thought that the presence of high progesterone levels, not estrogen, causes melasma – a theory supported by studies.

Your skin may require a few weeks to adjust to the system as it builds up a tolerance to the products’ strength. Some minor irritation and skin peeling can be expected during the initial phase of treatment but it will eventually subside as your skin becomes accustomed to it.

Patients may experience itchiness, redness and burning sensation upon using Obagi products that contain tretinoin and hydroquinone. Thus, patients are advised to try the cream on a small area of their skin before beginning full use.
