Did you ever experienced losing inches but doesn’t really lose your weight?
Did you ever wonder how some parts of your body are easier to slim down compared to others?
This article will debunk the myths about fat loss vs weight loss and answer all your confusions!
WHAT IS FAT?
First of all, you need to know what makes up fat. Fat is a component of diet that helps to shield our body from cold, store energy and provide another layer of protection for our vital organs. Fat are stored in fat cells that are available constantly in our body.
Fat cells absorb unused energy (calories) and fats that came through our consumption. This include processed sugar, carbohydrates and fatty acids. Fats are classified into two categories: subcutaneous (90%), and visceral (10%).
Subcutaneous fats are harder to get rid of compared to visceral fat. They are located under the skin, majorly around belly, love handles, thigh, buttock and abdomen. Visceral fats are located under our organs to provide a better cushion against any pressure.
WHY DO YOU LOSE INCHES BUT NOT LOSE WEIGHT?
The age-old question is best answered in the simplest way – the weight you lost from reducing fat makes up for muscles. You may notice even that your weight remains stable, your body is more toned, and lean compared to before.
The number of fat cells remain unchanged throughout our life. Although it is replaced regularly, it does not multiply in number.
SO, WHAT CAUSES FAT TO GROW BIGGER?
Fat cells act like a balloon. It may expand and contract based on the amount of unused calories it has to absorb.
As we eat, we would take in protein, carbohydrates and fats that are providing our bodies with caloric energy. Although carbohydrates are the main source of energy for the body, fats contain the densest energy. This energy is used in our daily lives in activities such as walking, working, and swimming.
The unused energy then will be absorbed by fat cells, making it larger. Contrary to popular opinion, fat cells don’t multiply. The number remains constant throughout our lives. However, it can expand or contract depending on the energy absorbed.
As our consumption increases, the size of fat cells increases, thus causing us to grow bigger and bigger.
TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR FAT LOSS?
CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved treatment whereby a controlled temperature device will be exposed to your stubborn fat area to break down the fat into smaller particles. Our fat is known to react to either an extremely low or extremely high temperature. The destroyed fat cells will then absorbed by the body through the normal metabolism process.
Similar to the concept of CoolSculpting, Clatuu helps to reduce fat by exposing it to the low temperature.
Vanquish relies on radiofrequency energy to radiate heat that can cause apoptosis or cell death. The dead fat cells then go out of the body through our lymphatic systems.
If CoolSculpting is using an extremely low temperature, Le Shape utilises a controlled high temperature to attack and kill off fat cells.
Mesolipo is a liquid fat burner to help kill off excess fat cells especially in small areas that we can’t use Le Shape or CoolSculpting.
