Botulinum Toxin (BOTOX)

Botox is a botulinum toxin produced by a microbe called Clostridium botulin. It is used in cosmetics to get rid of wrinkles or in medicine to treat several muscular conditions by temporarily paralyzing the muscles. In its pure state, botulinum toxin can be lethal, which is why it is only used in cosmetics in its highly diluted form. It is proven safe and has gained the approval of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In Malaysia, it is registered under the Ministry of Health, and Premier Clinic is recognized as a certified body to perform such treatment.

Many people in Malaysia choose to get a Botox injection for its numerous benefits, starting with how it is effective in weakening the muscles used when you crinkle your eyes or squint them, thereby removing signs of wrinkles or crow’s feet around the eyes. Botox works without numbing the targeted area.

Botox injection can also change your expression by simply removing the wrinkles in your brow. Instead of looking like you are perpetually angry or sad, wrinkle-free brows can make you look content and relaxed.

People also choose to get Botox to remove the forehead wrinkles that make them look more aged, more haggard. Years of using your face to create different expressions can leave creases on your skin, but a Botox injection to your face can help relax its muscles, leading to fewer wrinkles and smoother, younger-looking skin. Botox can be safely used when injected into humans in very small concentrations and in its highly diluted form. It stops signals from the nerve cells from reaching muscles, causing the latter to stay paralyzed temporarily.

Muscles contract when the nerve cells produce the chemical messenger called acetylcholine right at the spot where the nerve endings join the muscle cells. Acetylcholine then attaches its receptors to the muscle cells, causing them to shorten or contract.

However, the introduction of Botox into the human body stops the release of acetylcholine, which means muscles become paralyzed and cannot contract, making them less stiff. Although do not have to worry as after the effect reduces gradually, you may experience your natural sensation as always.

One of the more recent discoveries as a Botox benefit is jaw contouring or botox jaw reduction. Botox can treat oversized masseter muscles in the jaw, reducing them and creating a gentler curved jaw and cheek. This is often preferred by people with a square-shaped face to get their desired oval-shaped face.

Botox is also known as a non-cosmetic treatment for excessive sweating, migraine, and blepharospasm, or uncontrollable eye twitching. Overall, this treatment is suitable for:

Body Contouring

The majority knows Botox as a facial treatment, but anti-wrinkle Botox has gone a long way past the face and has been proven as a temporary solution for lifting breasts. A Botox breast lift focuses on the chest area and helps to lift the part as well as reducing the wrinkles and lines.

Botox breast lift is a non-surgical procedure that helps refilling volume in excess skin from the breasts and restores them to a more youthful position on the chest. Botulinum Toxin can also make breasts appear fuller and more defined cleavage for some patients.

As a wrinkle reducer, Botox is naturally injected into the muscles that contribute to the formation of wrinkles. Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) is a problem faced by many people and can occur in various parts of the body. The most common parts affected are the palms of the hands or armpits, but it may also affect the head, face, groin, or back. It can be a source of embarrassment especially if sweat stains are visible in public. Many individuals have suffered from this condition since their adolescent years, and continue to sweat regardless of hot or cold weather.

Sweat is usually produced by glands when the temperature is hot or during exercise, and if you have a fever or are under stress. This trigger is controlled by nerves that will shut off the production of sweat when these factors are not present. Hyperhidrosis is a condition where the sweat glands never stop producing sweat, resulting in perspiration even in air-conditioned areas.

Botox for excessive sweating works by preventing the chemical nerve triggers that induce the production of sweat. As there is no longer a signal to continue producing sweat, the glands will stop. This method also provides an alternative to surgery, but this is often the last resort and botulinum toxin injections can usually help to solve the problem without much fuss at all. The treatment will take up to a week to kick in, after which you should notice a reduction in sweat production.

Facial Sculpting / Contouring

Aging is inevitable for everyone but it doesn’t mean you can’t hack your way through it. Through the years, you’ve heard of celebrities and other famous personalities getting ‘botox’ to make sure they’re as fresh-looking and youthful as ever. Today, Botox has become the most popular form of non-surgical treatment in the cosmetic business. Every year, over 6 million Botulinum toxin injection treatments are administered. It is often administered together with facial surgery procedures such as eyelid lift or facelift to make the said procedures more effective. Jawline botox is designed to reduce a prominent, disproportionate, or asymmetric jawline by weakening the masseter muscles.

Wrinkles / Fine Lines

As you age over time, your skin will begin to display signs of aging, one of which is wrinkles and fine lines. Skin will become noticeably drier and less elastic – this is due to the lack of elastin and collagen is produced as it is the key component that holds the skin together and prevents signs of aging. Without its elasticity, wrinkles and fine lines will slowly form on your skin as it creases or folds. Other factors that contribute to this include excessive sun damage, dehydration or even smoking.

Botox is injected into facial muscles or treatment areas which blocks nerve impulses in the muscles treated. This reduces muscle activity which causes the formation of wrinkles and fine lines, making the affected skin layers smooth and wrinkle-free.

The number of visible wrinkles and fine lines will be reduced within the next 3-5 days, and your skin will appear smoother and unlined while facial muscles that were not targeted will continue to function, ensuring facial expressions remain normal.

There is no real threat in dealing with Botox. However, there are a few minor side effects that you might experience after the treatment. You might feel mild numbness in the treated area, minor bruising or swelling, temporary headache or nausea, two to three weeks of a drooping eyelid, and flu-like symptoms. It is recommended to test for a possible allergic reaction to the toxin before getting Botox.

But these side effects can be minimized if the doctor uses proper injection techniques and if you leave the injection area alone for 12 hours after getting the treatment. If you’re having certain allergic reactions, it’s best to inform our expert doctors before the procedure. Actual side effects from Botox itself is very uncommon. A temporary drop of the brow or eyelid is also a possibility but this only affects less than 1% of all patients. Your doctor will also be on hand to address any concerns you may have regarding post-treatment effects.

Nevertheless, there are few things to be observed to ensure the maximum result. The doctors will explain more in detail regarding the do’s and don’ts during your consultation sessions, but here are a few to get you started.

First of all, touching the injected area is prohibited. As the Botulinum Toxin strategically injected in a way by your doctor, any pressure put onto it might cause it to change. You may risk having infections due to the presence of bacteria on your hands.

Secondly, avoid alcohol or painkillers at least 48 hours after your procedure. Alcohol and painkillers are known as blood-thinning agents. Therefore, consuming alcohol may expose you to the possibility of unnecessary bleeding.

Thirdly, you have to avoid exercising as it would cause the Botulinum Toxin to move from the injected place.

Before treatment, our doctor will determine which parts will need Botox by asking you to contract some parts of your face. Based on what facial muscles you want to be treated, those areas will be marked and later numbed with cream or cold compress. No anesthesia is required. The Botox will be injected directly into the muscles that need treatment using a very small needle. If you may feel discomfort, it will disappear after a short time.

There is no downtime required for Botox treatment. The actual injection only requires around 10 minutes or so, then you can return to your usual activities for the day. But the entire doctor’s appointment may last for an hour or so, from the start of the preparation to finish, depending on your case.

The effect of Botox on the sweat glands lasts for 6-8 months, after which a top-up treatment is required to maintain the prevention of excessive sweating.

Cost for botox may vary from one premise to another premise as some clinics choose to charge per unit or per area of treatment. It also highly depends on what kind of problem you are trying to solve. The average cost of botox treatment is about RM 80 to RM 150 per unit. Thus for a single treatment with 10 units would cost around RM 800 to RM 1,500. The doctors will need to diagnose your targeted area before administering an injection of botox into your skin. This will allow you to do some cost estimation before signing up for it. 

In Premier Clinic, we choose to price the treatment based on the treatment area. For a facial wrinkles and fine lines problem it cost around RM 600 onwards whilst for the slimming, jawline area and also excessive sweating it would cost about RM 2000 onwards. Do bear in mind, since this procedure will be done mostly in this sensitive visible area which area your face, forehead, jawline and under-eye, finding an expert with medical experience will play a big role in avoiding any risk like muscle shrinking.
