Dermal fillers offer an easy and painless way to knock years off your appearance.

Dermal fillers are aesthetic gel-based treatments injected into the skin to fix a variety of concerns related to facial aging. They are typically made of hyaluronic acid. Due to the lack of collagen and hyaluronic acid being produced as you age, the skin tends to lose its elasticity and may become thinner. The natural aging process, combined with the effects of gravity, can lead to lines, wrinkles and sagging of the skin. Collagen is an essential structural protein that makes skin appear younger, more elastic, and as your skin’s glow decreases with age, it makes it harder for the skin to repair and replenish itself. This results in people losing self-confidence and self-esteem. Hence, fillers are an excellent treatment to restore volume to the area around the eyes, chin, lips, cheeks, the jawline, and even the nose. Regain your confidence with this treatment.

Dermal fillers (as the name suggests), fills in space where the collagen no longer occupies, improving folds and wrinkles, in addition to attracting water to replenish the skin’s moisture.

Besides, it also has a biological effect on your own hyaluronic acid which encourages an increase in collagen. The elastin production also increases which improves skin integrity, elasticity, and quality. Thus, this restores a naturally beautiful and youthful appearance.

Common areas of interest include the nasolabial folds, vertical lines around the mouth, the lips, under the eyes, the cheeks, nose and any other area that could benefit from additional volume.
A tiny needle will be used to inject the filler into the recommended treatment areas. To control bruising and reduce pain, ice is used to numb the area in between the treatment. The natural gel injected is absolutely safe and suitable for all types of skin, restoring a youthful and radiant appearance in no time.

Dermal fillers can last for more than twelve months, but this varies as it depends on the patient.
As hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural component, the body will absorb and break it down, therefore dermal fillers are not a permanent treatment. This also means you will not need to worry if you are unsatisfied with the look as it is not permanent.

The recovery is not an issue for many people. After the treatment, most people are able to return to their daily routines without facing any major problems. As with normal procedures, you can expect some redness and minor swelling after, but there is nothing to worry about as it heals itself in a couple of days. There is little to no downtime with this procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. How do facial fillers differ from anti-wrinkle injectables?

While both of these procedures are used in aesthetic treatments to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, their processes vary hugely. To add volume or fill out wrinkles, dermal fillers are injected into the skin, while for anti-wrinkle injectables treatment, the solution is injected into the muscle to reduce muscle movement, hence preventing wrinkles from forming or deepening.

2. Is the procedure painful?

This dermal filler treatment is simply straightforward. There is no real harm associated with dermal fillers except a slight discomfort during the injection of fillers. This is easily treatable by applying local anesthetic prior to the treatment.

3. When can I start to see results?

One of the great advantages of dermal fillers is the instant but not permanent effects. The long-lasting effects of dermal fillers vary depending on variables such as the area treated, the quantity of dermal filler injected and each individual patient’s age, lifestyle and metabolism.

However, it is safe to say that the treatment would cause impermanent effects roughly for about 6 months after the procedure.

4. How long does the procedure take?

As no heavy procedure is done with dermal filler treatment, the procedure would take about 30 minutes. However, it depends on how many areas are being treated at a time and the level of severity on the patient’s skin.

5. What should I do and not do after the procedure?

Patients are recommended to remain hydrated even after the procedure, as hydration provides a better healing condition for the treatment. Any type of squeezing, massage or pinching the treated areas immediately after the procedure is strictly prohibited as it will disrupt the filler to set. Please allow at least one day before putting any amount of pressure to the treated area, this includes massaging your face with a towel after cleansing. Should there be any complications or unintentional bruising, kindly contact your doctor first. Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, St. John’s Wort, and other medications that may cause or hasten bruising.
