Chemical Skin Peel

Also known as chemical peel treatment in Malaysia, skin peel is recommended for both men and women and is suitable for all ages. It is typically used to remove the top layers of the skin and is done by applying a peeling solution to the skin, which can lead to your skin starting to peel off naturally. This aids in the removal of any dead skin cells on the surface and reveals a fresh layer of skin, which is generally smoother and healthier than previous layers.

Premier Clinic uses a trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel, which is one of the original peels used for skin rejuvenation. Other types of peels are also used depending on the condition of your skin and this will be pre-determined by your doctor after an initial consultation.

The treatment begins with cleansing the facial skin thoroughly from any makeup or other substances. Then, a chemical solution will be applied to the targeted area of skin. This chemical peel process will create a controlled wound, letting new skin take its place. Once this happens, the new skin underneath is often smoother, appears less wrinkled, and may have less damage.

Pigmentation / Age Spots / Melasma

Age spots occur when the skin produces melanin to protect itself from harmful UV rays, often during overexposure to the sun. The melanin production is focused in a series of small spots which lead to the development of black, grey or brown spots across the skin.

This same instance of rapid melanin production may also lead to hyperpigmentation, which occurs when the melanin is concentrated in a small patch of skin instead of a group of spots and is usually darker in colour. TCA is a strong ingredient found in chemical peel treatment which is a great choice for treating pigmentation leaving smooth skin texture and helps to reveal fresh, glowing skin.

Pores & Texture

As a result of a build-up of dirt and sebum underneath the skin, large pores tend to form and is a common occurrence for individuals with oily skin. This causes the skin to swell and stretches the pores as a result, resulting in larger pores than usual. Being overly exposed to the sun will also lead to this as the skin will generate additional cells at the edges of pores to protect itself against the harmful UV rays; this will stretch out the pores. Aging also causes the skin to lose its tightness and pores get stretched out when the skin begins to sag instead of snapping back into place. The texture and skin’s appearance will be improved as the outer damaged layer of the skin is being treated with an acidic solution of skin peels. The treatment will help the pores become less visible and noticeable.

Wrinkles / Fine Lines

As you begin to age, you will notice the development of ridges, folds and creases in your skin which eventually leads to the presence of wrinkles. This is because the skin becomes thinner and drier as you get older, and it is no longer elastic and cannot snap back into place. The wrinkles that develop become permanent and do not fade away even after the face enters a relaxed state. With collagen and elastin no longer being produced by the skin, it cannot repair itself as before. The use of TCA solution in chemical face peel will break down the top layer of skin to help diminish the look of fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone.

Skin Lightening

Chemical peels contain fruit extracts and enzymes that help to break down the pigmented skin cells. It provides a deep cleanse effects that removes the dead skin cells, dust and excess sebum, which will improve your skin complexion.

Patients should experience a burning sensation during the initial application; this is the solution taking effect on your skin. During this period, a device over your face will blow out cool air, considerably reducing the sting and cold compresses will be applied upon completion to help with the cooling.

The strength of the chemical peel and its effects can also be increased by applying several layers of the chosen solution but this also depends on your skin type, situation and desired outcome. Regardless of the type of peel, you should notice an improvement after each session.

There are no major side effects caused by Skin peel treatment. But, peeling usually involves redness followed by scaling that ends within 3-7 days.

Most individuals are recommended a cycle of 2-4 peels but this is dependent on the patient’s condition as well as the intended results. Do consult your doctor in order to determine a suitable number of sessions for optimal results. Each session should be spaced 4 weeks apart. You should also minimise any sun exposure and apply sunscreen lotion above SPF 30. Use a moisturiser at least twice a day.

For a medical-grade skin peel performed by the doctors or physician, it generally cost an average of RM 450 to RM 2,000 per session. However, the cost can be higher depending on the type of peeling such as light, medium or deep. 

A skin peel is a treatment that involves the light application of an acid solution that is used to remove the damaged outer layers of the skin. The price for skin peel in Premier Clinic is about RM 500 per session of full-face whilst RM 800 onwards for other parts of the body. There are certain measures and precautions needed to be careful while doing this procedure to avoid any major side effects such as scarring, pigment changes and also sun sensitivity.
