WHAT CAUSES WRINKLES / FINE LINES?
As one of the effects of aging, your skin will begin to develop folds and creases in the skin, leading to the eventual formation of wrinkles and fine lines. This is because your skin is no longer elastic due to the absence of collagen, a substance which your skin needs in order to repair itself. As a result, the skin no longer snaps back into place, and the wrinkles and fine lines that form become permanent fixtures.
HOW MICRODERMABRASION WORKS TO REDUCE WRINKLES?
Labelled by some as an swift facelift, microdermabrasion is generally accepted as a more helpful alternative to other procedures which may be costlier and sometimes more invasive. Tiny grains are used to exfoliate the skin’s surface; this helps to get rid of dead skin cells and brings the fresh layer below to the top. The treatment does not affect the deeper skin layers as there is the risk of the grains getting embedded into the skin.
During the initial consultation, a treatment area will be outlined. The tiny crystal grains are aimed at this treatment area, exfoliating the skin and helping to remove dead skin cells present on the surface. This technique is not as painful as traditional dermabrasion, so patients do not require any anaesthetic.
Regular sessions of microdermabrasion treatment can even trigger your skin to start producing new skin cells more quickly than usual. This results in healthier skin cells reaching the surface faster than it previously would have, which may possibly result in some deeper blemishes decreasing over time.
After the treatment, you may continue with your daily routine as usual but do note that your skin will be pink or reddish for the next 24 hours. The sensation you will experience is similar to a mild sunburn and you should apply some moisturiser and avoid putting on make-up for the next 24 hours. You should also avoid exposure to the sun for the next few days, and continue to apply moisturiser.
Depending on your skin condition and desired results, your doctor will recommend a number of sessions in order to get the good results. Treatments will be spaced apart accordingly, and you should notice a gradual improvement in your skin’s condition after each treatment, increasing in radiance and health.
