Candela Gentle YAG Laser Treatment

Plenty of cosmetic enhancements are possible with laser technology – a technique that has been around for a significant period of time. Laser treatments have traditionally been used to remove age spots, treating veins on the face and legs. Lasers are also used to rejuvenate facial skin, making it look younger.

The GentleYAG system utilises a high-energy laser that does not affect or harm your skin. A cooling device will be used first to spray your skin so as to ensure you are comfortable during the procedure. As the target is set, a gentle beam of light is emitted by the GentleYAG system. The long-pulsed laser will pass through your skin without causing any damage. Laser energy will be converted to heat which helps to target the treated areas in the process, which will help to reduce any skin imperfections.

Saggy Skin

The most common cause of saggy skin is simply the process of aging. As we get older, our skin loses the ability to produce collagen and elastin needed to maintain the skin’s youthful appearance. As the skin’s connective tissue that keeps it supple and tight, the lower production rate means that skin will begin to droop and lose its plumpness. Your facial muscles also get weaker as you get older, hence the pull of gravity may cause the skin to sag a little more.

The long pulse energy used in this treatment will go straight into the deeper layers of the skin and subcutaneous tissues to trigger the formation of new collagen in the deep dermis resulting in a tighter, fresher and more youthful appearance. The skin will continue to work up at least 12 weeks post-treatment to allow the skin to combat wrinkles, saggy skin as well as fine lines.

Spider Veins / Fine Veins

Fine or spider veins are named as such due to a web of red or blue veins that form and appear to spread across the legs, face or other parts of the body. These are superficial blood vessels that have been dilated and are similar to varicose veins but are much smaller and closer to the skin’s surface. It is a very common occurrence and does not cause any medical problems, but may be unsightly to some people. Caused by an increase in pressure in the veins, spider veins tend to be hereditary and become more and more common as you get older.

Candela YAG laser uses a focused beam of energy to target the pigment in the blood. The heat will coagulate the blood inside the vessel and cause it to collapse and seal without breaking the skin. The result is not immediate. However, this laser therapy will gradually improve the vessels underneath the skin from a dark blue to light red colour which eventually disappear in 2 to 6 weeks.

Hair Removal

It does not matter how fair or dark a patient’s skin is as the GentleYAG laser system will remove hair regardless. This eliminates the need for waxing, shaving or plucking on the patient’s part and they will no longer have to go through this cycle. Skin and delicate pores are not harmed during the treatment and even larger body areas such as the back, arms, legs and shoulders can treat and left hair-free in a single session.

Laser energy will be converted to heat which helps to target the hair follicles in the process, which will help to reduce any hair re-growth. Hair grows in phases and several sessions are required to target it in the correct phase; you will notice that there is less and finer hair re-growth even after the first session.

Eye protection (an opaque covering or goggles) must be worn throughout the treatment session. Proper care should be taken in the first few days following treatment to avoid scrubbing the area, or use of abrasive skin cleansers. Patients are advised to avoid any direct sunlight or over sun exposure for at least 1 weeks. It is compulsory to apply sunscreen and moisturiser in order to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. It also because your photosensitivity will increase after laser treatment. Thus, it is very important to protect your skin to avoid any burn.

The adjustable pulse width of the GentleYAG laser system and its dynamic cooling device ensures that the usual stinging discomfort associated with sclerotherapy (vein injection) is drastically reduced. Usually “pulse-and-swing” technique is used, whereby a cold sponge is applied after each pulse to cool down the target area as well as to reduce discomfort. As each body part is completed, cold gel packs are applied to each area to reduce any side effects including redness and swelling. You may expect your skin to be tight and dry for a couple of day, but it will peel off and reveal new, younger and healthier skin. Results are generally long-lasting and can last for up to 10 years but this may vary.

In addition, follow-up treatments every 4-6 weeks help to maintain the healthy glow of your skin while also slowing down the aging process.
