We were visited in September 2014 by a blogger who has come for treatment for acne scarring. Pimples, especially cystic ones, can produce scarring in the form of skin indentations due to the intense inflammation process. By not treating active acne quickly enough with the proper antibiotics and topical medications such as adapalene ointment or tretinoin creams, acne scarring is a very real possibility.
There are several options for treating or reducing acne scars. These can be by using chemical peels, microdermabrasion, filler injection to fill up the indentations, or an ablative laser such as Fractional CO2 laser or Erbium Yag laser.
Here at Premier Clinic, we utilise Fractional Carbon Dioxide laser, also known as Fractional CO2 laser, as our armament of choice. This is because the Fractional CO2 laser is more aggressive and gives better results compared to other kinds of lasers. Fractional CO2 laser causes more heating in the surrounding tissue, which leads to more collagen remodelling. That translates to better results.
6 or more sessions of Fractional CO2 laser will give the best results. Of course, it would be impossible to fully get rid of the acnescars, but at least the scarring can be reduced.
