Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for Wrinkles

Wrinkles are an inevitable part of aging, and is a natural process that occurs due to the skin losing its ability to produce collagen. It holds the skin together, maintaining its tightness and elasticity and the lack of production means that the skin is unable to snap back into place. As a result, creases and folds begin to develop and form in the skin, eventually leading to wrinkles and fine lines. Facial expressions can also contribute to wrinkles due to the lack of collagen, while excessive exposure to the sun and dehydration can also be a factor.

The process of platelet-rich plasma therapy involves blood being drawn from a patient, similar to a blood test. Placed in a specialised machine, the blood is then separated into blood cells, platelets and serum. These elements are then re-injected into the part of the body that requires treatment or rejuvenation – this procedure is also referred to as ‘Dracula’ or ‘Vampire’ therapy.

The reintroduced platelets assist the body in its self-reparation as it releases growth factors that help stimulate skin cells to produce new layers of tissue. It also triggers the production of fresh collagen in the skin, and this helps the skin to grow back healthily and appearing more radiant, while the new skin should also be smooth to the touch.

Most patients only require about 2-3 treatments spaced 2 weeks apart, but this might vary depending on the individual’s skin condition. Your doctor will recommend an appropriate number of treatments in order to obtain the good results.

Within 3 weeks of treatments, your skin should be much firmer and smoother, and further improvements should follow in the coming months.* Usually lasting for about 18 months, these results are not permanent and require top-up treatments in the future to maintain its appearance.

Some swelling and minor bruising may be experience for up to a week following treatment, but it will subside and does not cause much discomfort. There is also almost no risk of any side effects as the treatment is all natural, making it safer compared to other types of traditional anti-aging procedures.
