Dermal Fillers Workshop for Improving Eye Appearance

Dr Kee Yong Seng, aesthetic physician of Premier Clinic, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, was invited to attend a talk and workshop on Teosyal dermal fillers for improving the appearance of the eyes. The workshop was held at Sunway Medical Centre on 1 October 2014.

The talk focused on how aesthetic doctors such as Dr Kee can use hyaluronic acid dermal fillers to improve tear troughs which is a sunken appearance under the eyes, and to help hide the appearance of eye bags. The dermal fillers can be used to fill up any sunken areas which can make a person look tired or lacking sleep. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers hydate the treated area, thus helping to alleviate the appearance of dark eye circles.

Deformities over the eye region, called the periorbital region, can be corrected with dermal fillers. However, attempts at treating this sensitive area can result in potential side effects and complications due to its anatomy. Therefore it is vital for the patient to use the services of only experienced, qualified aesthetic doctors or plastic surgeons to minimize the risk of problems.

An intimate familiarity with the human anatomy, quality product selection, patient assessment, suitable patient selection and very importantly, good injection technique is very important in ensuring good results.

Cryolipolysis Sessions for our Volunteers

Have you ever wondered why some people have dimples on their cheeks whereas others don’t? Scientists have discovered that if a child consumes a lot of ice cream or popsicles, they have a higher tendency to develop dimples. This phenomena is called apoptosis, whereby the cold temperature of the ice cream kills of fat cells in the cheeks, thus creating the dimpled appearance. Interesting!

Based on this finding, scientists have created the cryolipolysis (cryolipo for short) procedure whereby cold temperatures are used to injure and kill of fat cells. A cryolipolysis machine freezes the fats to 5 degrees Celcius. At this temperature, other tissues are not affected as they are more resilient to cold. Thus skin, nerves, muscles and internal organs are not harmed by cryolipo. However, fat cells are more sensitive to cold temperatures and are eliminated by the body naturally over time after the cryolipo procedure.

A session of cryolipo can give you some results, but the best results would be after several sessions. And you will need to wait 3 to 4 months after the last session to see the best results. This is because the injured and dead fat cells need time to be fully eliminated by our body’s natural immune system.

A session of cryolipolysis takes 1 hour and each session can be performed once a month. The procedure has minimal downtime and one can go back to work, exercise and conduct their usual daily activities right after the procedure.

Premier Clinic had several volunteers today who came for cryolipo demonstration sessions. They were attended to by Premier Clinic’s aesthetic doctor, Dr Elaine Chong.

Berita Harian Newspaper Interview on Menopause

The World Menopause Day is on 18th October 2014. This special day calls on every country in the world to make menopausal health a key issue into the country’s health agenda This is to help each menopausal women reduce or even prevent unpleasant signs and symptoms which can affect a woman’s quality of life. Besides improving menopausal symptoms, proper healthcare can also reduce the chance of a woman getting heart problems, osteoporosis (brittle bones), colon cancer and other types of diseases related to hormones.

In conjunction with World Menopause Day, reporters and photographers from local newspaper Berita Harian visited our aesthetic doctor at Premier Clinic, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. Dr Kee Yong Seng was interviewed on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) during the fruitful one hour session.

Hormone replacement therapy is used to replenish the hormones which decreases as a women starts to have menopause. Blood investigations are performed prior to commencing treatment.

Dr Kee Yong Seng advised the public to accept menopausal changes positively. Attitude counts a lot and having a positive mindset certainly would be very beneficial. Practicing healthy diet and incorporating frequent exercise and a fitness program would be helpful. Taking oral supplements would also boost a menopausal woman’s health, according to Dr Kee. Dr Kee also talked about synthetic HRT versus bioidentical hormone replacement therapy whereby he divulges the pros and cons of each option.

Our Cryolipolysis Demo Session

We are having several sessions of Cryolipolysis demo this week at Premier Clinic, Taman Tun Dr Ismail. Cryolipolysis, or Cryolipo for short, is a method of freezing off unwanted fat cells which will lead to loss of inches in the targeted area.

The Cryolipo procedure involves applying the machine’s handpiece over the treated area. When switched on, a gentle vacuum suction and cooling of tissue will start. The Cryolipo machine brings down the temperature of the treated area to 5 degrees Celsius. At this temperature, the fat cells get injured as they are more sensitive to the cold whereas the skin, nerves and muscle do not. Over the course of the next 3 to 4 months, the fat cells would be naturally eliminated by the body’s immune system. This in turn causes the area to become slimmer and more physically attractive.

Commonly treated areas include tummy, love handles, thighs and arms. Each session of Cryolipolysis takes one hour. More than 1 session can be performed, once every few months to give even better results.

The advantage of this procedure is that there is no risk of anesthesia as opposed to surgery such as liposuction. There is also no scarring or risk of infection. There may be some redness and swelling on the treated area which disappears in a few day. There might be tingling sensation or numbness over the treated area but this will go off in less than 2 weeks. There is no downtime and the client can go back to work or exercise right after the Cryolipo.

Dr Chen on MERCY Malaysia Website

Premier Clinic aesthetic doctor, Dr Chen Tai Ho, volunteered in the Philippines to help victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

He attended to skin diseases, wounds on the skin and soft tissue, tuberculosis and pneumonia,  and also chronic illnesses such as heart disease, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Our doctor was based at Ormoc hospital and several mobile clinics.

Biofibre Hair Implant Demonstration

Premier Clinic had another Biofibre hair implant demonstration at their clinic premises at Taman Tun Dr Ismail on 19 September 2014. Mr Yan had male pattern baldness which is a hereditary condition. He had a bald spot right at the crown or the top of his scalp. The hair loss has been worsening over time.

100 Biofibre grafts were performed in slightly over an hour by our aesthetic doctors, Dr Aarthi Maria and Dr Elaine Chong. The Biofibre hair implant procedure went well without any issues.

Biofibre is a FDA-approved synthetic hair graft which is used to treat balding for both men and women. Local anaesthesia is given before the procedure is started to make it more comfortable. The results lasts for 5 years.

Refining Lift Workshop

Our aesthetic doctor, Dr Chen Tai Ho, was invited to attend the Refining Lift Workshop. The workshop focused on creating lift and reducing sagging on the face by use of Dysport Botulinum Toxin, Teosyal hyaluronic acid dermal filler and Silhouette Soft thread lift.

Experienced aesthetic doctors from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore were on hand to give talks and live demos of the Botulinum Toxin injection, hyaluronic acid dermal filler as well as thread lift.

Over 40 aesthetic doctors from all over Malaysia including Kuala Lumpur aesthetic physicians attended the aesthetic lifting workshop.

Hands-on Derma Veil Injection Session

Dr Kee Yong Seng and Dr Aarthi Maria Francis, our two experienced aesthetic doctors from Premier Clinic Kuala Lumpur, were in Hong Kong for a Derma Veil workshop in September 2014. Our doctors injected volunteers with Derma Veil which can restore the patient’s youthfulness.

Facial fillers, also known as dermal fillers, are injectable substances which can be used to restore volume, lift the skin and improve sagging and wrinkles. Some fillers can be used to augment facial features such as making the nose sharper, chin and jawline more defined, or making the lips fuller.

Derma Veil is a type of filler which can be Injected on the face, and also other body parts which need volume restoration such as the hands. Anywhere there are sunken areas, wrinkles and fine lines, Derma Veil stimulates collagen production to fill in the area, thus diminishing the aged appearance. The results of Derma Veil can last 1 and a half years or so. The longevity of the results actually depends on a number of factors, such as your age, your original skin texture, your genetics and also your lifestyle such as whether you eat healthily, exercise regularly, avoid smoking and drinking excessively, the quality of your skincare products and whether you are exposed to the sun excessively.

Derma Veil is a synthetic fillers made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). They work by stimulating collagen production at the treated areas.

Before injection, the doctor will apply some topical numbing cream to decrease any potential discomfort. Lidocaine, which is a numbing medicine, is mixed with Derma Veil to block out any pain. Derma Veil has some minimum downtime, such as mild redness, swelling or bruising. These subside in a few days.

At least two sessions would be needed to give the optimal results. For those who are older or have more volume loss or wrinkles, more sessions may be required. A treatment session can be performed once every 3 weeks.

Derma Veil Workshop in Hong Kong

Our aesthetic physicians, Dr Kee Yong Seng and Dr Aarthi Maria Francis were invited to attend a Derma Veil workshop in Hong Kong. Our two aesthetic doctors were in Hong Kong from 9 to 11 September 2014. The Derma Veil workshop was attended by numerous aesthetic doctors from all over the world who were keen on being updated on this latest anti-aging procedure.

Derma Veil is an aesthetic product which helps to reduce wrinkles and signs of aging. It is an injectable product. Derma Veil helps to reduce and repair damage to the skin which is caused by the aging process and too much sunlight exposure. Derma Veil helps to hydrate our skin. It also helps to restore our skin’s volume and reduces  outward imperfections such as wrinkles and scars.

The main ingredient of Derma Veil is  glycolic acid (GA) which is bound to polylactic acid (PLA). The slow dissolution of the product means that there is prolonged action on our skin, thus increasing the lifetime of its beneficial effect.

Derma Veil is compatible with the human body and will be fully removed from our body over time by our own natural processes. The product does not remain permanently in our body, but is able to stimulate our own natural collagen production. This collagen production helps to reduce wrinkles, adds volume and gives us a more youthful appearance.

A minimum of two sessions and up to five sessions may be required for the best results. A session can be performed once every 3 weeks. The actual injection takes less than 10 minutes.

A patient would have topical numbing cream applied onto the skin for at least half an hour before the procedure to reduce any potential discomfort. The Derma Veil product is mixed with lidocaine which is an anesthetic agent to further make the procedure more comfortable.

There may be some mild swelling, redness, discomfort or bruising for the next few days after the procedure. Make-up can be applied to hide the appearance of redness. Ice packs can be used to reduce the mild swelling. Usually these side effects go off completely within a week. You may resume your normal activities such as going to work or the gym after the procedure.

Biofibre Hair Implant Demo

We had another Biofibre hair implant session at Premier Clinic performed by Dr Elaine Chong on 11 September 2014 on our volunteer. A hundred grafts of Biofibre hair was done within an hour for a gentleman who had some hair loss over the crown of his head.

Biofibre is a kind of synthetic fibre which is biocompatible with the human body. Biocompatible means that it does not elicit much foreign tissue reaction or rejection as it is compatible to our body. Biofibre hairs look and feels just like our own hair. It comes in different lengths and colour. We even have the option of implanting straight or curly hair. Biofibre hairs are resilient and can be washed and blown dry just like our own natural hair.

Our doctors including Dr Elaine Chong are trained and experienced in planting Biofibre hair without causing much side effects or downtime. Special devices are used to implant the hairs into the scalp without causing much trauma to the surrounding tissue.

After the procedure, the client has to follow specific instructions on how to clean the hair with gentle shampoos. Around 10% of the implanted hairs will fall off by itself every year. The results last for up to 5 years. More implants can be performed anytime to replace the hairs which has dropped off.
